We’ve got a big day ahead, and trust us—Port Fairy is one of those magical little towns where even a single day can feel like a whole journey. Whether you’re up with the first light or enjoying a slow start, we’ve got something special planned just for you.

Start with a Sunrise Stroll

If you’re an early riser, slip on your walking shoes and head out to greet the day with a peaceful walk along the coast to the Port Fairy Lighthouse. It’s a serene way to welcome the morning, with waves crashing below and the sky painted in soft pastels.

Keep your eyes peeled—you might spot a few wallabies hopping through the brush on Griffiths Island as the world slowly wakes.

For the Sleepyheads

Prefer a slower start? After a delicious breakfast at the Guesthouse, grab a takeaway coffee from Bank St & Co or The Farmer’s Wife café and head out for a gentle stroll down Cox Street. Just turn left from our front door—the Port is right at the end.

From there, wander up to Bank Street, then loop back down Princess Street. It’s a lovely circuit that takes you past charming boutiques, local art galleries, and inviting cafés. Perfect for soaking in the town’s laid-back rhythm.

Next Stop: Out to Sea!

Time to hit the water! But don’t worry—we’re not whalers like the old days. We’re here to admire, not hunt. From May to September, the Southern Right Whales make their way along our coastline for breeding and birthing. It’s a breathtaking sight. Outside those months, there’s still plenty to see: penguins, seals, seabirds, rugged cliffs, and some of the best fishing waters in the country.

We always recommend our friends at Mulloka Cruises—they offer a range of options, from short trips to full-day marine adventures.

Lunch & Leisure

After your cruise, head back into town for a bite. You’re welcome to return to the Guesthouse for a laid-back lunch in the garden or treat yourself to something tasty at one of the great spots you passed earlier on your walk.

Feeling content and cozy? Curl up with a good book in one of our hammocks and let the afternoon drift by.

Still got some energy to burn? Grab one of the Wandering Whale paddle boards (yes, they’re free for guests!) and make your way to East Beach for a sun-soaked splash.

Sunset & Sundowners

As the day begins to wind down, you’ve got a choice: watch the sunset dip into the sea at East Beach bring a blanket and let the horizon do the talking, or wander into town for a drink as the sky turns gold.

One of our favourite spots? The Caledonian Inn affectionately known as The Stump. It’s the oldest continually operating pub in Victoria, and they pour a mean pint. If one sundowner turns into dinner, you won’t be disappointed by their hearty counter meals – perfect after a day by the sea.

Sweet Dreams

After a day full of fresh sea air, salty skin, and coastal magic, your cosy bed at the Wandering Whale awaits. Snuggle in, drift off, and know that we’re already looking forward to welcoming you back.

It's fascinating to stay in a property with history such as this. Port Fairy itself is very tranquil with enough to do. East beach is idyllic, in that the water doesn't go above 4 feet for most of the bay. Jess and Laurene are phenomenal, both exceptionally friendly and really work hard to make the space clean, welcoming and comfortable.
